Trusts/Wills

Rapid Transfer of Assets on Death.

As long as the estate of a couple is under $4 million, the trust assets can usually be transferred on death. Although different sizes and types of estates take different amounts of time to settle and the cost may vary, you can anticipate, for example, with an estate of somewhere between $100,000 and $1,000,000, that the children or beneficiaries will generally need to spend up to 1% of the fair market value of the trust estate on attorney fees. Without complications, the trust usually settles (closes) within 3 to 4 months.

If the only asset in the trust is a home and a bank account the successor trustee can usually accomplish the transfer without professional help.
